Waistbeads are traditionally from Africa and have many purposes, such as a symbol of marriage, femininity, sensuality and fitness tracking.

This adornment can be fashioned with various beads like gemstones, glass beads, and wood beads. Although they are traditionally created with cotton thread and tied on permanently, they can be used with other string to make them removable, such as elastic string, or finished with a clasp.

Traditional Waistbeads are non stretch and tied on until the wearer decides to remove them. Each strand can fit a waist size of up to 40 inches
